January 11, 12 p.m. update: Widespread flood damage in the Montecito area has significantly compromised water service to campus, and college officials decided to evacuate students and cancel classes through Friday, January 12. All the students left safely and found a place to stay. More than 80 faculty, staff, alumni and local church members generously offered to house students.

The provost’s office has sent a message to students explaining how we will make up the missed classes for the spring semester. The college does not plan to extend the spring semester, alter holidays or spring break, or change the date of Commencement, which remains May 5.

Residence halls will reopen at noon Monday, January 15, and classes will resume Tuesday, January 16.

All employees receive daily information from their supervisors about where and when to work. Thanks to portable restrooms and bottled water, some staff are working on campus.

Westmont will continue to post daily updates and alerts on the website. Join a conference call with President Gayle D. Beebe on Sunday, January 14, 2018, at 3 p.m. PST. Call 1-877-668-4493; the meeting number is 800 648 304. Or listen online. He will give an update about resuming classes next week.

Please join Westmont in praying for the Montecito community, which has suffered devastating impacts from flooding and mudslides, including the loss of life and many homes.
